Over a period of 1 1/2 years, Bob Shimizu prepared for his first African safari. This is his story.

The book includes all the steps one must follow in preparing for and successfully executing an African safari. Physical conditioning, firearms training, logistics and travel are all covered from the perspective of someone new to African hunting. It includes lessons learned and the successful conclusion.

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it – in fact, I found it so interesting that I ended up reading the entire book in a single day. Your insights into the preparation and experience were incredibly timely for me, as I’m currently preparing for a black bear hunt in Alaska. Your book has been a valuable resource for structuring my training; for example, dry fire training with my bolt action never crossed my mind, despite doing frequent dry fire work with a pistol. Beyond the practical advice, your stories were inspiring. I’ve already added a safari hunt to my long term bucket list (much to my wife’s dismay), and I’ve signed up for some formal training nearby to sharpen my long-range skills.
